Axon Touch Control is a low-cost, remote controlled AC/DC distribution system, designed and manufactured by Axon Components Ltd. It allows for remote switching and monitoring of all onboard circuits via lightweight cabling.
The Touch Control system comprises of one or more 12-way circuit breaker units which are connected by a Cat5 (network or Ethernet style) cable to a touch-sensitive control panel. This panel provides remote switching of all circuit breakers, displays ‘on’, ‘off’ and ‘fault’ status of each circuit and shows amp and volt indication via digital meters, as well as a low voltage warning.
The standard 12-way circuit breaker units contain variable rated breakers, with available ratings of 1 to 40 amps per circuit. Higher rated breakers and remote battery switches can be fitted to a supplementary heavy duty unit which is again connected to the control panel via a Cat5 cable. This allows for switching and monitoring of circuits up to 450 amps, and provides complete remote control of all battery, generator and shore power options.
Multiple control panels can be integrated into the system to provide alternate switching locations for some – or all – circuits. The facility to incorporate bespoke panel design also means that the boat builder can specify how many panels are required and the number of touch-sensitive switches per panel, as well as metering and battery switching options.
Axon Touch Control is a low-cost and uncomplicated alternative to more complex and expensive networked, CANbus style control systems. Whilst providing the same weight-saving benefits of such systems, Touch Control allows for quick and cost-effective installation, offering an almost ‘plug-and-play’ level of simplicity. It requires no programming, isn’t subject to network protocol clashes and comprises only of industry-standard circuit breakers, PCBs and cabling. |
